Personal Statement: Why I Stopped Using AI
How I Switched from Using AI to Write Spanking Stories to Writing Them By Myself
By Yu May
Starting in 2023, I began playing with ChatGPT, shortly after it was first released. One of my first experiments was to ask it to write spanking stories, based on my question prompts. The results were mixed, and I found that its stories tended to be a bit stiff, and lacking in detail. After playing with ChatGPT for a few weeks, I decided I could do better, and edited one of the logs into what I considered a finished story, expanding on the spanking scenes. At the time, I wasn’t very confident in my abilities as a writer, and was only playing with ChatGPT as a novelty.
Between 2023 and 2024, I continued to play with ChatGPT and other AI tools, and eventually started writing more spanking stories based on these prompts. At this stage, I used ChatGPT more like an assistant to help me flesh out my own original ideas, essentially to compose a first draft, which I would then edit and add to to create the final story.
I publicly discussed my experiments with ChatGPT on my deviantART, including how ChatGPT began to heavily censor the topic of spanking in any context.
At some point, I concluded that ChatGPT had become more of a hindrance, and practically useless once it began censoring content more rigorously. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed writing, and have been writing my own stories from scratch since about mid 2024. The only exception I can think of is that I played around with DeepSeek when it was first introduced in January 2025, due to the fact that AI tend to be more open to writing uncensored spanking stories when they are first introduced, but by that point I’d already transitioned to writing my stories from scratch.
I can’t point to any particular date when I made a clean break, I can only say that there was just a point where it was faster to write an idea myself rather than try to argue with an AI to circumvent its censorship rules.
I came to these conclusions on my own while writing, separate from ongoing cultural and political debates about the ethics of AI, and the sudden surge of AI generated content on social media.
I’m not really experienced enough in programming or AI in general to have an informed opinion on AI, whether it’s the legal or ethical ramifications of it. My view as a layperson, having played with it to write self-indulgent spanking stories, is that it seems to be useful in certain contexts, but a poor substitute for human creative work. Spanking stories written entirely by AI tend to be dull and repetitive, which I noticed pretty early on while working with it.
Although I can truthfully say that I am no longer using AI to write any of my current projects, I do occasionally revisit short stories and ideas that I came up with during my earlier experimental phase with AI. For example, I might pull up my notes on an old AI chatlog that I copied and pasted into Google Docs, reread it, decide I like a particular idea or character, and start reworking it myself. This is because I find it’s a good habit to keep a list of ideas so I am never lacking inspiration when I have free time to write.
Because I used AI as a sort of “digital secretary” that means the chat tends to contain my rough ideas for the plot, so when I’m revisiting the old story, I’m referencing those notes.
Whenever I revisit a story or concept that was prompted by an AI chat, I always acknowledge that an AI chatbot was used as part of the initial process of creating the story. I do this for the purposes of full disclosure. In the past, I even published the entire chat logs for those who were interested in comparing the AI with my final story to see how extensive my changes were.
I understand and respect the negative opinions that people have developed toward AI since its explosion into everyday life. While I believe the technology of AI is too powerful to be contained for long, I hope that it will be used in ways that promote human creativity, rather than replace it, and that it be regulated in a way that respects the rights of human artists and writers.
Speaking only for myself, if using AI taught me anything, it’s that I can write a better spanking story than any AI, by myself. All my recent work is written entirely by myself, and that will continue to be my practice going forward. The only exception I can think of is when I revisit an old short story from 2023-2024, I still reference the old AI chatlogs since those are my only form of notes my plot and character ideas. In these cases, I openly disclose the usage of AI, even if I’m writing the continuation by myself.
I hope that my past usage of AI does not diminish your enjoyment of my spanking stories, and if you ever feel inspired to create, whether it's art, or comics, or stories, or music, or anything else, I hope you pursue it, and that you find as much joy in it as I do in writing!
Sincerely,
Yu May
